La música es el alma de los pueblos. Las prácticas musicales y sus manifestaciones se pueden convertir fácilmente en un área donde las personas convergen y pueden expresar diversos sentimientos. La bomba es un género afropuertorriqueño y su ejecución, donde destaca el tambor, las voces, el baile, a través del tiempo ha sido un espacio de confraternización, pero también de sedición, de luchas y resistencia, primero, en contra de un sistema colonial opresivo establecido por España hasta 1898 el cual llegó al punto de justificar el régimen esclavista en contra de las personas afrodescendientes y luego en el cambio de soberanía y las implicaciones a partir del dominio estadounidense. La bomba es un instrumento conectivo tanto con las etnias y grupos que nos han poblado en Puerto Rico a través del tiempo procedentes del continente africano, pero también con otros géneros y prácticas en el Caribe. Con el tiempo se ha convertido en bandera de identidad nacional, lo que ha hecho que las comunidades boricuas fuera del territorio borincano, especialmente las radicadas en Estados Unidos utilicen la bomba como un elemento conectivo y de expresión cultural que reafirma nuestras tradiciones y las mantiene vivas.
Music is the soul of peoples. Musical practices and their manifestations can easily become an area where people converge and can express diverse feelings. The bomba is an Afro-Puerto Rican genre and its execution, where the drum, the voices, the dance stand out, through time has been a space of fraternization, but also of sedition, of struggles and resistance, first, against an oppressive colonial system established by Spain until 1898 which reached the point of justifying the slave regime against people of African descent and then in the change of sovereignty and the implications from U.S. dominance. The bomba is a connective instrument both with the ethnicities and groups that have populated us in Puerto Rico over time from the African continent, but also with other genres and practices in the Caribbean. Over time, it has become a flag of national identity, which has made Puerto Rican communities outside Puerto Rican territory, especially those based in the United States, use the bomba as a connective element and cultural expression that reaffirms our traditions and keeps them alive.
