Los sentidos del migrante

Abstract

Consideremos el cuerpo como punto de partida para señalar la experiencia humana. El homo bacteria; el cuerpo sensible; la afectividad del individuo por encima del uso de la razón. Todo aparece en la inmediatez del presente, sin que pensemos en pasado o futuro. Emergen entonces nuevas representaciones del yo basadas en el feeling sin verbo, en las respuestas de los cinco sentidos. La materialidad de la experiencia para señalar las nuevas políticas culturales. A partir de este lente teórico, se enfoca al migrante del principio del siglo XXI en varios textos literarios –un poemario de Balam Rodrigo, una novela de Valeria Luiselli, y la ópera de Anna Deeny Morales, recientemente estrenada en el Kennedy Center de Washington DC. En particular, se exploran las representaciones del trauma sufrido por el niño migrante en términos del cuerpo sensible

Consider the body as a point of departure to express the crisis of human experience: the homo bacteria, the perceiving body, its affective responses and feelings, a human subjectivity lacking words, complete thought, or reason. These are ways to stay in the immediacy of the present, to elude history and logic. These are works with surface responses of the body in which the senses are in full show. This essay is a reflection on the ways in which theories of sensation, perception, and affectivity help us elucidate the situation of migrants in various cultural texts. Particular focus then falls on the ways in which migrant subjects are captured in the poetry of Balam Rodrigo, a novel by Valeria Luiselli, and an operatic work written by Anna Deeny Morales. In each case, we explore the representation of trauma suffered by migrants as an experience of the sensible body
