dc.description.abstractTo make learning English easier for participants, a new approach has been proposed, which is using functional rather than prescriptive grammar. Derewianka and Jones (2010) state that “the idea of language use as functional, linked to the purposes for which humans use language in the many social contexts they inhabit; for example, to explain, to entertain, to instruct, to describe. The grammar is organized into three ‘bundles of functions’ or ‘metafunctions’ which relate to the major functions language plays in our lives: enabling us to represent our experience of the world (the ‘experiential’ function); enabling us to interact with others in the world (the ‘interpersonal’ function); and enabling us to create coherent and cohesive texts (the ‘textual’ function)”. Hence the idea that language and grammar can be taught without rules. We attempt to teach Functional grammar with an approach that students can recognize easily, that is TBL.eng
