Este artículo estudia la implementación de la Matrícula de la mar en San Francisco de Campeche, los trabajadores obligados a prestar el servicio y los conflictos jurisdiccionales que involucraron a diferentes autoridades de ciudades como Veracruz o instituciones como la capitanía de la marina de La Habana. El manejo de la población adscrita a la matrícula y la definición de la jurisdicciones del sistema en el virreinato Novohispano y el Caribe, fueron los principales motivos que generaron discordias. El análisis representa un intento por aportar a la discusión, sobre el manejo político y administrativo del sistema de defensa de la Corona españolas, a través de uno de principales dispositivo de coerción laboral de la segunda mitad del siglo XVIII.
This article studies the implementation of the Matricula de la mar in San Francisco de Campeche, the workers forced to provide the service and the jurisdictional conflicts that involved different authorities of cities such as Veracruz or institutions such as the captaincy of the navy of Havana. The management of the population assigned to the registry and the definition of the jurisdictions of the system in the viceroyalty of New Spain and the Caribbean were the main reasons that generated discord. The analysis represents an attempt to contribute to the discussion on the political and administrative management of the Spanish Crown’s defense system, through one of the main devices of labor coercion of the second half of the eighteenth century.
