Otro desafío que enfrentaría es la misma crítica de un sector de la Iglesia pues la mujer no podía evangelizar, en atención del mandato dado por Jesús a su grupo de apóstoles, todos hombres. Pese a ello logró consolidar una empresa de evangelización con los indígenas, innovando en método, hasta ese momento empleado, la fuerza y las imposiciones occidentales que los indígenas detestaban. Por su parte, ella, primeramente, con su grupo misional aprendió la lengua nativa y cosmovisión de estos grupos, y desde allí logró que aceptaran la fe católica, convirtiéndose este un método revolucionario para la época y ganándose la aceptación de muchos sectores de la sociedad antioqueña.Laura Montoya became a revolutionary of the ecclesial and social structures of the late nineteenth and early twentieth centuries for her ability to face situations such as throwing herself into the jungle to evangelize; an unthinkable task in Colombian society at the time, because women were either married or convent nuns.
