Esta problemática es especialmente notoria en estudiantes tanto de zonas urbanas como rurales del municipio de Mompox, particularmente en las instituciones educativas Río Grande de la Magdalena y Normal Superior de Mompox, situadas en el departamento de Bolívar, a orillas de la depresión momposina. El estudio identificó que la principal causa de esta dificultad es la baja comprensión de los textos matemáticos. En respuesta, se propuso aprovechar la sabiduría popular y autóctona, integrándola en la pedagogía para mejorar la motivación y comprensión de estos textos en las mencionadas instituciones educativas.   Durante la investigación, se detectaron varios factores relevantes que contribuyen a esta problemática, como la apatía hacia la lectura, especialmente en el área de matemáticas, y el escaso acompañamiento de padres y acudientes. Estos factores complican el proceso de comprensión y, en general, la formación académica integral de los estudiantes. La comprensión lectora permite relacionar los nuevos conocimientos con la realidad cotidiana. Por tanto, el desafío de esta investigación fue motivar a los estudiantes para que comprendieran los textos matemáticos y pudieran aplicarlos en su vida diaria, apoyándose en los saberes populares. El objetivo era que los estudiantes pudieran experimentar la aplicabilidad práctica de las matemáticas más allá del aula, integrando sus conocimientos académicos con su entorno sociocultural, sus costumbres y tradiciones tanto orales como escritas, y la realidad de sus comunidades.The research titled "Popular knowledge as a strategy to strengthen the understanding of mathematical texts" was developed with the objective of addressing a prevalent educational problem in Colombia: reading comprehension, specifically in the field of mathematical texts. This problem is especially noticeable in students from both urban and rural areas of the municipality of Mompox, particularly in the Río Grande de la Magdalena and Normal Superior de Mompox educational institutions, located in the department of Bolívar, on the shores of the Mompos depression. The study identified that the main cause of this difficulty is the poor understanding of mathematical texts. In response, it was proposed to take advantage of popular and native wisdom, integrating it into pedagogy to improve motivation and understanding of these texts in the aforementioned educational institutions.   During the investigation, several relevant factors that contribute to this problem were detected, such as apathy towards reading, especially in the area of mathematics, and the lack of support from parents and guardians. These factors complicate the understanding process and, in general, the comprehensive academic training of students. Reading comprehension allows us to relate new knowledge to everyday reality. Therefore, the challenge of this research was to motivate students to understand mathematical texts and be able to apply them in their daily lives, relying on popular knowledge.
